What BPC-157 is
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide of 15 amino acids. Its sequence is a fragment of a larger protein first described in gastric juice, which is where the name "Body Protection Compound" comes from. It has been studied extensively in animal models of tissue injury.
It is not an FDA-approved drug, and no adequate controlled human trials have been published. It is sold as a research compound, which is why independent testing of each lot matters.
